My Mom is Giving Up and I Don't Want Her To

She is currently on a "program" thing that helps her track what she eats. She is also exercising and was doing really great until she moved on to weights. She was lifting and now her shoulder is hurting and she is letting it beat her. She won't do anything else with this program, please convince her not to give up as she was doing really good at first and I was actually proud of her until now, unless she is convinced to keep going but she really was doing a great job and I believe she can keep it up and do an even better job if she sticks to it. Unfortunately she is being stubborn again and will not listen to me.

  1. Your Mom should get her shoulder checked out in case she has injured it. Doing further exercises on it would only hurt it worse. If the doctor says she should continue, perhaps that will persuade her.

  2. Firstly well done Elena.

And Nick it is really good that you were supporting your Mom, however a shoulder injury should be aggravated by more exercise. Of course you are quite correct, this is a crossroads for your Mom and it is very important that she doesn´t give up completely and this a stage where a coach has to decide whether to use the carrot (reward) or stick (punishment) to get the best out of their student. Remember this crossroads is as important for you as it is for your Mom so work together to find the best way forward as a team.

  3. Aw Nick. What a wonderful son you are looking out for your mother. Looks to me like she has a great supporter at home! Give her a big hug and tell her how good she was doing. To take care of the shoulder (see a doc?) and switch to exercises that work the lower half until she figures out what to do about the upper. Stationary bike perhaps? If you want to help her further, you could clean and cut up some fresh fruits and veggies so when she wants a quick snack, there's a healthy alternative! Great job reaching out Nick!

  4. Don't let what how you feel one day direct the rest of you life...this too shall pass and yes you might do your a kind and gentle thing and get checked out all part of the program...heck famous sports people type always get hurt but never let it get them down...it's a stumble that's all.

    Nick your the Man!

  5. I agree. She needs to get her shoulder checked out so she doesn't injure it further. Then she can progress. Maybe without weights?
