Open the Package

I'm really enjoying physical therapy
Not only do I get to meet others on the ride in
but I get to challenge my body (more) with the seemingly simple things
(like standing with my eyes closed LOL)
We're all like the toys on the Island of Misfit Toys
We're temporarily broken but bonding through humor, grimace, and stories

My driver's husband collects Simpson characters
She told me that years ago her kids gave him a few characters
each wrapped individually in paper within a box
Excitedly he picked each package and felt around asking
"I just want to know...are they all here?"
When they answered 'yes' he smiled and put them back carefully in the box
He never opened them...they're still wrapped after so many years!
I found so much humor in that
~
I found my way to the basement last week
Looking around I noticed so much 'stuff' that we no longer use
So many things that are waiting for the 'just in case' or 'when I' day
I thought of my driver's husband...and decided to get moving
If I am not using it, and haven't, then it's time to send it to someone else
If I'm not enjoying it, someone will
I've put virtual expiration tags on things like my kiln and art supplies
If not used within a year (and a half -slow recovery) then it's passed on
Because the most important thing I've learned is that old age is not a guarantee
Enjoy life now because we never really know how many tomorrows there are

The two crates I left for last were those related to work
Slowly I cracked them open to reveal a bunch of memories of a life
that I can't quite remember living
I struggled for a bit wondering if I should let these things go
I reached in and found that the memories were inside me and not these things
I have outgrown the person I was then and there's nothing wrong with that
These things could be used by someone else
And with that I let the two crates go and felt a sense of release
as I finally cut the chords to my past
Because the reality is if I ever go back to work it's with a NEW me

What I've learned is that life is ever changing
Things, experiences, people will come and go
Relationships will grow while others are meant to be temporary
But through it all we are meant to live with an open heart
Learning, influencing, growing, loving
ebbs and flows

We're meant to tear open the packages and enjoy them now
Stop waiting

~
I truly appreciate you all
Happy New Year

  6. Glad you are letting go of stuff. I'm working that path too, guess I should start dating the stuff I decide to keep!
