It started yesterday
like a tiny, persistent, hard to reach itch inside snowboots
I mistook it for loneliness, tried ignoring it, bribing it
eventually put it to sleep and was rewarded with childhood nightmares
Upon awakening I slowly opened my eyes
wondering if it was gone
and quickly discovered that my restless gypsy spirit was revolting
I felt caged
I felt like my throat would close
feeling downright claustrophobic
Wanting to run; needing the road; wanting my bike
Longing not to be tied down to the domestic anchor
I became vicious
Took The Kid to school
then spoke to my angels
"Ok, look, my soul is aching for something
I need your help; give me something to calm it down
before it tears me apart-you tell me where to go & I'll follow"
And I drove. I ran away.
Turned left or right when the word popped into my head
I ended up in the forest preserve
Still feeling cranky, and now cold, I questioned my sanity
Until I reached this point
I smiled
I must be on the right track
I was running 'Away' after all, right?
So I continued
smiling a bit as I felt the trees' energy around me
Listening to my footsteps and the occasional bird
Until I heard a low rumbling
Wondering what it could be
And as I turned the corner this is what I saw
Smiling wider I moved closer
Climbing over fallen rocks and trees
Until I could feel the air generated by the falling water
And I sat upon a rock
closed my eyes, listened to the water, and meditated
After a while I opened my eyes & felt complete peace
my soul was content
I had run away and given it what it needed
I sat for an hour alone-but not alone
and my soul was thrilled
As I left I thanked the Great Spirit and my angels a gazillion times
I came home smiling; my heart and soul feeling alive

I forgot that being around too many people
does this to me
I felt like a dirty sponge!

Oh Elena, the sign that says Away is so appropriate for your flight. You found that beautiful pool, waterfall and wet rocks; that was good and soothing for your soul, and for mine too as I looked at your photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful spot! I love how it fed and soothed your soul.
ReplyDeleteI chuckled out loud when I saw the sign! How perfect! And what a beautiful place to meditate. When I get to feeling like that I know I need something that is food for my soul...and some alone time to recharge. Yours was so perfect. Thanks for remembering to have a camera with you and sharing. What a pretty waterfall.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!! :)
stay in tune with what you've just learned my dear...don't let it go so long, continue the away in your life...it can be a fond friend when you feel the caged feelings coming up..catch it early so you don't have nightmares though..
ReplyDeleteImagine if you had not run away what you would have missed? You listened to your inner voice and it rewarded you. What a splendid, tranquil n peaceful hour you must've had had. That works better than any medicine. I, like you, cannot handle the noise of life. Always have preferred the silence so much so that it's a necessity n not a want.
ReplyDeleteI love this post, your thoughts and writings move me!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, I needed this, I think I might just run away for a while.
I feel that gypsy spirit calling me!!

Wow!
ReplyDeleteDo me a favor. Tell those angels of yours to give me a visit and guide me to what I need! Don't forget to tell them I'm stubborn and hard of hearing!
What a magnificent waterfall. I probably would have gone home, packed a tent and some clothes and set back out to live!
Love the sign too. So perfect.
Re-centered after going driftless.
