Cinematic Dreams

I felt like I went out to the theater last night

Except I was sleeping on the couch

And dreamed of the collapse of civilization

Action packed, weapons, death and destruction

and...

As civilizations around the world were destroyed

those who managed to survive hid for weeks

Strangers holed up in small rooms together 

Rich, poor, white collar, blue collar, young, old...

 

Until one day the door opened and it appeared all was over

In their excitement people started running out of the shelter

And were captured by the 'beings' who caused the destruction

The others ran back to the shelter's safety

 

Some time passed and it was obvious that it was truly over 

The world was destroyed

Forests burned, waters polluted, buildings collapsed

Wandering throughout the land we bumped into other survivors

Looking confused, lost but exuding a sense of strength

 

People in tattered clothing

Different shapes, sizes, colors, nationalities, social & economic backgrounds...

A man in highly adorned military attire tried stepping back into his role of power

And quickly realized that it was futile

The world was different

No electricity, no vehicles, no high paying jobs with the corner office

And it was like an unspoken understanding

As all these 'different' people started working together side by side

 

Stripped of who they were

They became who they were meant to be

And the question that popped up before I was rudely awakened

by a dog paw to the eye was

 

"Would you revert to your old ways or recreate yourself? 

Your survival depends on re-creation, you know that don't you?"

I awoke for an hour at 4 a.m. and went back to sleep

And the dream picked up where it left off as I watched people begin the cleanup

Not saddened

But hopeful

I have no clue where this dream came from

But the question and the message was timely
