I'm looking for a church
not any church of course because I'm difficult
I need to go into a specific church
the kind I grew up in with high ornate ceilings
large steeples and the smells of candles
where the limestone and marble embrace your soul
as your senses dance among the chords of the organ's song
And I can't find it out near me
I walk into bare spaces confused by what I can't find
As I turn to walk out of yet another try
my hubby asks 'what, exactly, are you looking for?'
A feeling, I say
A feeling of comfort, community, the like-minded people
the smell, the music, the soul, the embrace
I'm looking for comfort food for my soul
So when I'm finally allowed to drive I am going home
to find the church to hug my soul
Yes, modern churches are not like the ornate ones of yore. Even the Catholics have gone plain like the Protestants.
ReplyDeletegood lord, I too search for the church of my childhood
ReplyDelete....only .found it inside of me
oh how I know this ache
May your Thanksgiving be one of family, food
and prayer
I so hope you find what you are looking for. I think so many of us are looking for community, at a spirit and heart level. That connection is what will heal us.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest checking out a United Church. In my experience which was many years ago, the United church focuses on God as Love. That is a focus I can put my heart and spirit around.
Sending you love and light, Lovely one, and hugs on your beautiful spirit.
Good for you my friend. I have tried churches my whole life and never found one to fit, to feel like home. I'm happy you have experienced what you are looking for once before as you can practice the feeling to manifest the experience.
ReplyDeleteI actually found another type of church to try. Have the info. in hand. For about three weeks I have been wanting to call. Haven't found the time. Would like to try it. If I do, I'll tell you more and how it goes.
Hmmmm.........wish I could help but I have no idea. Maybe in Joliet? I believe there is a neigbohood called the Cathedral area......must be a cathedral there somewhere?!? And I wonder about the old one that's supposed to be haunted.....near Archer and Rt. 83....St. James of the Sag I think?? It's by the canal, up on a hill. I love what you're describing. I hope you find it!!
ReplyDeleteIn some old churches I find just a wonderful feeling of peace.
