Are you familiar with this sign?
Alerting you to the Traffic Circle (or Roundabout)?
Who the heck knew they could exist on the road of life?
~ ~ ~
So in the last two posts I spoke of those sneaky bumps in the road
Even the ability to hoard old ways of thinking
that leave no room for the new
And then it was rather quiet here on My Quest
(did you hear the crickets?)
Well...seems there was a chapter on Money in The Artists Way
which threw me for a loop
ok that's putting it mildly
I was a raving lunatic; sniveling, ranting, frowing...yeah all of them AND more
I even ran to all the online job boards...even submitted an application
to run back into a career I had already run from
knowing full well that walking away from it is what awakened me to this whole new life
Luckily I belong to a helluva cool tribe of Artist Way people who kicked my butt
But one Doc-Marten-wearing babe in particular nicely pointed out
"You do this all the time you know"
"Yeah, I know", I whined dramatically
And yeah, I KNEW it but somehow it didn't register
I figured it was mind games, wishful thinking, brain miscommunication
But when someone else points it out to you
You can't do anything but point your finger back at your head and say
"HA! See! I told you so!"
The cool thing about being so brutally honest on My Quest
is that it acts like a road map
I can see where I make progress, where I fall off the road, where I backtrack
and now I see where I get caught in the Traffic Circles
Enticed by what lies ahead I boldly take a step forward
The Itch, that internal Censor, starts whispering
you can't, you shouldn't, oh-doom-and-gloom
and I lose a bit of pep in my step and start looking back towards the familiar
The Muse, that internal cheerleader, starts whispering
yes we can, reach for the stars, oh-how-exciting-it-is
Welcome to the Traffic Circle
Some of them are so big that I think I'm walking my path
not realizing I'm just looping right back to where I was
The thing is
these traffic circles can be helpful
giving you a chance to revisit something that might need addressing
so as not to pop up on the path a bit too many times
But awareness is key
You need to know you're in the traffic circle so you can get yourself back out
And continue on your journey
~ ~ ~
Now, I need to order a dozen of these signs
and put them everywhere as a reminder
to keep my eyes open

Your creative, put it on a surface that will make the most impact and differenc in your life.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like a friend in Doc Martens to nicely kick your butt, eh?
ReplyDeleteSo Anne kicked your butt!! Good for her and good for you for listening. We all go through this crap, my friend, and coming from a long line of "naysayers," YOU CAN DO IT!!! Think of yourself as "The Little Engine That Could," or is it "Can??" Anyway, you know what I'm talking about.
ReplyDeleteI really have to find my copy of "The Artist's Way," and start my journey, again. I tried to get into it several years ago, but I was too involved with other interferences.
Well, I've missed you over at FB, but if deleting yourself from unnecessary distractions is what you must do, you go, girl!! Take care and remember, NANO-NANO!!
Abrazos,
G
Yup! Those circles always have exits. ;)
ReplyDeleteI truly believe that the "circles" are a very good thing. You can sit back look at what didn't work....and proceed to the exit. Works for me every time. I don't want to go back. I don't want to have "before" thinking. I want to be in the now.....and so do you. It's like the hokey pokey....turn yourself around...that's what it's all about...now put your whole self in. Good job. Oma Linda
ReplyDeleteomg.....I have no anonymity any more....LOL!
ReplyDeleteOkay, yeah, I was the evil jack-boot wearing kicker.
But DONE WITH LOVE. :-)
We all hit round abouts....it's just learning when to get off and hit that road that leads somewhere.
That being said, until unresolved business is finished, it comes back to niggle and haunt. So resolve and pitch, and then move forward, one step at a time.
Life is good off those merry-go-rounds...
With or without Docs! :-D
XXOO~~
Anne
I find I get a little dizzy for time to time from going round and round. But I also know its OK to just sit down and let the spinning stop, then try again. Reading a road map can be a little confusing, just remember to line up your compass and press on!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy trails to you!!

i love butt kicking friends....they're the best kind to have !
ReplyDeleteps..we have those traffic circles all around and i kind of get a kick out of them until i'm behind someone who has no idea how to drive around them.
:)
ReplyDeleteHello. Sounds like the Artist Way is working for you!!!! Hugs Karen
ReplyDeleteI think I might just find it amusing to stay stuck spinning 'round in a traffic circle for a while if it weren't for the other blasted drivers that think they have a right to my circle! Muah ha ha ha ha! (insert evil laughter)
ReplyDeleteYup. Traffic circles. One must remember to exit the circle.
Fun post.
