During dinner after the graduation
My sisters sat across my ex mom in law and ex sister in law
They chatted and caught up with the last four years of life
Pulling out a camera to show stored photos
My exes would look up wide eyed and mouth agape
Finally I leaned over to listen in on the conversation
My sisters were talking about my latest adventures
Saying 'oh yeah, did you know she's doing this or that?'
My Mama nodding her head in a 'I gave up' fashion
They knew me when I was still trying to be nice
To do what I thought was expected of me
Instead I've been finding out more about who I really am
(These are the side of me that confused them most)
What they don't know yet is my spiritual side
That I believe in angels and signs and spirit guides
That I believe that we are part of a larger whole
And that God doesn't sit on a golden throne 'way up there' but rather within us
And a whole lot more
I didn't think they could handle that part of me yet
They don't know yet that I am a seeker
And in seeking I am living...really Living
That the Universe no longer allows me to settle into self made niches
Whether to be just a career professional, an artist, a mom...whatever
Because the reality is I'm all and whatever I want to be
My truest happiness comes from tasting it all
Some may argue that in doing so I'll never be truly good at one thing
Who cares?
There's a great big world out there and I've been falling in love with it
Some people come into my life and some go
Some good and some bad
And with it all are lessons that boost me along my journey
(Ever notice the greatest growth comes from the most painful experiences?)
(Got to play on this over the weekend)
This year promises to be full of adventure
In a few weeks I get to meet the Australian artist who will be staying with me
I've decided to travel to Seattle with her to meet some other artists out West
The hubs and I will be heading East on the bikes to meet some new and old friends
And did I mention that my son told me a few days ago that he has a girlfriend?
A girlfriend
And they have a date today at the mall
Did I mention he's 14
And I get to chauffeur
And the kid is afraid of what I may say...or do (heehee)

Oh I have to show you
I fell in love with this cool pneumatic nail driver at the women's workshop
We're planning to build a garage in the Fall
(mmm smell of sawed wood)
And maybe I'll get one of these for my birthday
Just maybe....
but can you tell the hubs in case he didn't catch that hint

Your words made me all mushy :D I am happy to have found you too because you inspire me. And "you shoot!!!" How cool is that?! Is that a shot gun? I remember my dad owned something similar and taught me and my mom to shoot in the back :) I felt like Rambo ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou know your life has changed when you want a pneumatic nail driver for your birthday, LOL! I hope you get it -- nail guns are so much easier than manual hammers!
ReplyDeleteBravo! BRAVO!!!!! (standing, clapping, whistling, saluting you)
ReplyDeleteI am stunned in utter excitement! Thirty-nine days, but who's counting? Yippee!!
ReplyDeleteDrum roll ......... its adventure time!!! The Australian artist is just lurking to see what you are up to hehehe.
ReplyDeleteI hope you aren't planning on aiming that firarm at a critter!
ReplyDeleteno no no
Well done Elena!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Chainsaw man will let you use one of his saws when you come here. I'm so happy that you will be traveling this way this summer.
ReplyDeleteIt takes courage to be a true seeker - there are no guide lines, no book of words to direct you - the work has to be done alone. You have the courage, the adventitious spirit - a true seeker. What a journey internal and external you have allowed yourself to go on. Inspiring - encouraging - get off your butt and start living inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYour stories about your family are so funny. Oh Mama!
