One of my favorite things to do is traveling alone overnight by train
The excitement of the journey
The changing landscapes along the way
Connecting with the others I meet
Sharing a meal, a drink, conversation,
sharing some laughs and often some tears
Giving me snapshots of a fellow traveler's journey
Waving goodbye as we part ways at various stations along the way
~ ~ ~
A train ride is like life on fast forward
Different people with different destinations
On the path we momentarily connect and travel side by side
Some longer than others
But no matter what, our journeys are unique
I don't know where they're heading or what they'll do when they get there
I chose my journey before I boarded
and the experiences along the way are what enrich my travels
I can't make someone stay on the train just as someone can't make me
I may temporarily disembark to experience something that may enhance the trip
but it's always my choice
~ ~
My favorite place on the train is the observation car
The windows are larger and the chairs pivot for viewing or conversation
It's where you meet the most interesting people
It's the hub of activity
The place where for a moment I touch, and am touched, by others
~
The best I can do for anyone is be me
Share a meal, a drink, conversation, some laughs or tears
Be grateful of the things I see and experience
Let it enhance my journey and then share the love
In the hopes that it enriches my fellow travelers' journey
As much as they enrich mine

Hmm... sounds as if you do indeed love people after all.

ReplyDeleteI've never been on a train but do feel I have been on train rides! I intend to stay on and see where it takes me, loving everyone along the way.

ReplyDeleteAll aboard!
ReplyDeleteI only rode a train once for a sixth grade field trip from Minneapolis to Chicago during the night. (They'd never allow things like that these days--LOL!) I LOVED the train. I had forgotten all about it. Thanks for reminding me. Maybe one day I'll be able to take another train trip. Can tell how much you love them. :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful such adventures await of your train trips. While reading this I imagined all the interesting people you must meet and stories you must hear. It would make a great book - each chapter a snippet out of a different life -
