I need to post this confession. I'm afraid of riding my bike. By now I would have several trips under my belt this year but the last ride I took was that last artist date when I rode to the lake near home. Even then it was only a couple miles away. I don't get it. I've ridden in the Santa Ana winds, Canadian downpours, sand storms in Arizona, etc. and I can't ride in the Illinois countryside? What gives?
I think perhaps I was spooked. My brother has always been my hero and surrogate dad. He's 59? don't know, but to me he's invincible. He can do no wrong, knows how to do everything and will live forever. Well in February he crashed into a tree while snowmobiling and broke his leg. He's never been sick and now he was broken. He's almost healed now; walking with a cane while in therapy.
But he broke. That's not supposed to happen. I'm the weakest link in the family chain. If he broke, well then imagine what would happen to me?
I've been thinking of selling my bike. But I need to get on one more time to know for sure.
NOON - UPDATE
I reread my blog post and was disgusted by the self-pity so I put my boots on and took off. I didn't even take time to tie back my hair for fear of talking myself out of it. I took a nice ride and decided not to sell her. I love my bike and need her. Besides, if it's my time to go I'm sure the grim reaper will find me even if I'm hiding in the closet. Might as well have fun while I can.
