It used to (ok still often does) bug me when someone called me naive
I took it as a derogatory term; akin to calling me weak
So being nosy like usual I looked it up
Websters defines naive as
marked by unaffected simplicity;
deficient in worldly wisdom or informed judgment;
not previously subjected to experimentation
~ ~ ~
I'm not ashamed to admit I love cartoons
not the ones made to look like real life
but the boldly colored ones with the thick black outlines
it's the vibrancy and the movement
I love things like the Muppets and it's no coincidence which I am most attracted to
Although really cute, I don't care much for Miss Piggy
the fashionable, heel wearing, 'pretending-to-be-high-society' swine-ette
Then there's Kermit the Frog,
the worrier, with the 'let's-buckle-down-and-be-professional' attitude
is it any wonder I sway between loving and liking him
Then there's Animal (love love love)
the wild, live out loud, drummer
if you have a moment
tell me this isn't me
tee-hee
there's a whole slew of things I love
things that make me smile, laugh, thrill in the gift of sight and sound
things that others may think is too childish
immature
And then I saw this on Websters naive definition
naive is derived from
French naïve, feminine of naïf, from Old French,
inborn, natural
~
So it turns out I am naive
it is an inborn and natural ability to connect
to that which makes my Spirit soar
inspires me to laugh, wonder, dream,
to question, to answer, to seek, to share
to see crystals in ordinary water droplets as I run through the sprinkler
to imagine trees, flowers, rocks with googly eyes
to see a story in everything and to give it voice
because being naive is what acts like a wedge
in the door that separates my child-like imagination from the grown-up serious me
it's what makes me feel alive
~
So of course after finding this new knowledge
I 'happened' to find this cool shirt for $7
WILD
Adjective:
1. wild - marked by extreme lack of restraint or control: restless
2. not tamed or domesticated. intractable-difficult to manage or mold
Someone who can play.
Leash? Don't even think about it!
Subject to random outbursts of shouting
May bite!

So go embrace your naivete
Your Spirit will thank you for it

Who knew naive could be such a good thing? I've been called naive for my idealism/tendencies towards tree-hugging hippie-ism. Next time I'll just smile and say, "Thank you!"
ReplyDeleteOh! Amen to all of this!!!!! I get it girl----I really really do!!! Don't ever lose your naivety!!! It's priceless!!!
ReplyDeleteI always loved Animal, Kermie, Rolf (the piano player), and even Gonzo, who always kept trying to hit the right note...In fact, David bought me the whole series of the Muppet Show on dvds a few years back and when I need a Soul Laugh, I get 'em out. Naive, child-like, young-at-heart, a beginner's mind - I will take it all !
ReplyDeletePlay to your Soul's content, Gorgeous One !
Rock on Elena.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't forget "naive art" -- art which is truthful and direct, but unschooled and therefore unaffected by overlaid B.S.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Hooray for naiveness! Me too, Elena. ...and I love your shirt!
