Instead I chose to say a prayer for all the people lost in that tragedy. Instead I prayed that the souls had moved on and had not chosen to stay behind stuck in a state of confusion and loss. And then I thought about this Never Forget...
Is it never forget where you were at that moment in time
Is it never forget that due to religious or political misinterpretations (or misrepresentations)
that we are capable of such evil cruelty to one another
Is it never forget that in the face of such evil, we are truly capable of pulling together
to help one another, to reach through the rubble and stretch out your hand
and say 'here, let me help you'
Not once did someone say,
I'm sorry I can't help you because you're the wrong color,
in the wrong financial bracket, the wrong political party, the wrong sex....
Not once did someone say,
I'm sorry I can't help because I might catch something,
or what's in it for me, or it'll cost you this much...
Is it never forget that on that day
thousands of miles away people were flocking to help
Is it never forget that on that day
some media stations were actually talking about the good things people were doing
Is it never forget that on that day
strangers were talking to strangers, holding the door open on the bus,
extending their hand to strangers and saying 'here, let me help you'
Is it never forget that under all the crunchy exteriors we are one spirit
And it takes an act of cruelty to expose the truth
Is it then, never forget who you truly are and what we truly mean to one another
And that's what I'll never forget
(sorry about the soap box this morning)
