- I was 8 mos. pregnant and walking around the store. An older woman asked me if I would give her a ride to the mall which was a couple blocks away. I looked at her as she explained how her feet hurt, and I said sure. I mean she was someone's grandmom and was tired how could I say no. My son started tossing around inside and I felt sick as he moved back and forth. I had a strange image of her sitting in my passenger seat and stabbing my belly. Where the heck did that come from? I felt really dizzy and told her I was going to go sit down and I'd come back. I tried but each time I'd feel worse. I finally decided that maybe I shouldn't give her a ride. So I snuck out of the store. As I drove off, my son settled down and I felt better. Except for the guilt of having bailed on the lady.
- He was 5 and we were walking through the woods. We were talking and laughing and he suddenly stopped and told me to hush. He looked down the path and grabbed my arm as he started a quick retreat and desperately said we had to get out now. I was getting angry then realized everything was quiet; I mean the birds and insects had quieted. I heard a cracking up ahead and then I felt the sense of urgency. I picked him up and literally ran out. Of course I felt foolish later but I don't know.
- A few months ago we went to the first soccer practice in our new town. He's been in soccer for 5 yrs so it was natural to sign up in the new town. I had talked to the coach and explained I wanted him to meet new kids. He was nice and I finally got to meet him at practice. I sat and watched and finally when it ended he came to the car and looked flustered. He said he wanted to quit. The more I asked why the more flustered and near tears he became. I started to argue and instead found myself saying ok. I didn't want to raise a quitter but I couldn't understand why he looked so desperate. The coach was arrested on suspicion of child porn last week.
Is it possible that he senses when things aren't right? Who knows. But I thank goodness he has been safe thus far and I hope whatever has been watching out for him continues to do so.
Why do I write this? Because I think it's a good lesson for me to learn to listen to my (his) instinct instead of my ego.
Amazing. He has a wonderful guardian angel or something that's there. Wow, Elena.
ReplyDeleteNo question there, just listen and believe in your children. I had the same senses when I was a young one and two of my uncles has some issues... and those were the ones that I had sensed.

Sonia Choquette would be proud of you both right now, don't you think? Listening to that intuitive self inside.Glad all worked out for you each time. When I was younger, had those types of feelings, expressed them, but they were ultimately dismissed and ignored. Now my intuition is always front and center, no matter what.
ReplyDeleteI love how you write, I take a writing class and am often told to use hooks to capture the audience. You do that on a personal level. You have many creative gifts!
