What's in a dream?

I can discount dreams as being nothing but manifestations of an undigested meal or products of overly medicated sinuses or an imagination in overdrive. But there are those specific dreams that seem to beg for a closer look. Like a little nagging tap, snippets of the dreams act like post-its on the brain demanding attention.

And I wonder. Why am I so quick at poopooing dreams when in reality they may be the central switchboard to my inner guidance. Haven't great (and not-so-great) men and women been guided by their dreams in the past? But the problem with dreams is that they work in code. Things aren't what they seem but can be deciphered if you pay close attention to those specific things on the 'post its'.

So for a week I've collected those mental post-its with dream snippets that refused to go away. I finally decided to pay attention and tried to figure out what message I was getting. I won't bore you with the details but it started with my brother who died when I was four coming back to our old house. And for various nights I helped small children in various capacities including a rather embarrassing stage performance with a little girl in a gleaming white dress who everyone applauded for even if we sucked. I even had a shoeless monk walking in the snow in my driveway who smiled calmly as I tried to scoot him into the house.

After some research and deep thinking I finally deciphered my message. It speaks of rebirth & new beginnings. Of letting go of old thoughts and patterns; purging the things that no longer work. A reminder to care for myself and just have fun. To allow myself to play and not care if the 'adult' side of me thinks it's a waste of time. And apparently the shoeless monk addresses the feelings of being unprepared or unprotected and reminds me that I can take measures to address these instead of worrying about them.

So was it a message or undigested corned beef? Well, they came at a time when I was considering giving up on 'this artwork nonsense and buckling down' (so adult of me, no?). And after I 'deciphered' my message yesterday, the dreams stopped last night. And today I spent time in the studio.

  7. I love this post.....
It is odd when we interpret our dreams how things change.
I guess I see your shoeless monk as wisdom and patience; the longevity of a new life. It takes a long time to get to that stage as a monk....nothing is quick in life, especially inner journeys!

    XXOO!!
