"In Traveling Mercies, Anne Lamott writes about a Buddhist belief - the idea that when several things start going wrong all at once, it is to protect something bigger and greater that is trying to get itself born-and that whatever it is that is trying to come into our world needs for us to be distracted so that it can be born as perfectly as possible."
Cool.
While trying to clear the garden of thousands of dead tree limbs, I couldn't resist the urge to draw. It's not finished but I wanted to share. I'm not sure yet what I want to do with the background so I'll set it aside for now. I used to stare at blank paper and finally put it away determined that I was clueless. Last couple times, I stare at blank paper and before I know it something's on it. But I have no sense of what went into it. You can usually tell when I come out of the zone...that's when my drawing stops and has to be set aside. I can also tell where I'm trying to force something. Those are the areas I don't like. Seems to fit the quote I found.
Birth.
This was an experiment. Does it look at all like an angel forming out of the fog? No, not yet. I have no clue how to draw people....or angels. Not sure why I had to draw this. While drawing I kept thinking of fog clearing, of figures taking shape within, of not really being alone.... Then I thought, how cool is this. I started with white charcoal on black cardstock, but it didn't work. Then I put white and blue pastel pencil and smeared it. Then started to draw the figure with a kneaded eraser. Experiments, experiments. I'll save it to remember the concept and hopefully one day I'll be better able to render what I was after.
let it flow babe, let it flow....
ReplyDeleteThe birdhouse is lovely as it is. Don't look so hard. Love the angel... for someone who says they can't draw people, it is very believable. And lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great angel.
ReplyDeleteWow you got an angel that quickly....looks like the angel of the North
ReplyDeleteYour birdhouse is darling and perfectly named! And the angel just draws you in, along with the way you got her. Beautiful!
