Autumnal Equinox

In my previous life I used to walk down the hall with tape measure in hand and clipboard in the other. As soon as I'd walk into a room I'd be greeted by groans, eye rolls and the "Oh no, NOW whats!" I'd laugh and say "Now, Now, don't be afraid it's just a tape measure...". I said "I won't lie, things may get hectic but I'm here to make the transition as smooth as possible. If I don't know the answer, I'll find it. Together we'll get through this so that we're all happy." And I'd go back to my office laughing at their resistance to change.

Fast forward to current life and I had become the one hiding behind walls of familiarity and nervously searching for that 'tape measure' signifying change. Paybacks. Luckily the magical trip to Santa Fe knocked down those walls and I was left standing amid the rubble ready for change. And a bit cautious. My new found friend John ended a great conversation with these words; Who Am I? As I contemplated these simple words I walked into the living room expecting complete darkness and instead finding it bathed in moonlight. Walking out onto the deck I remembered it was the night of the Autumnal Equinox. And joining it for the first time in 19 years the full moon known as the Harvest Moon. And if that wasn't enough, Jupiter joined the party with it being closer to the Earth since 1963. I wasn't even born yet!

So there I am, standing on the deck at 11 p.m. looking up into the sky at this wondrous sight. Was it me or was the moon brighter than normal with Jupiter at its side like a beauty mark? And since I look for personal meaning in everything now (call me selfish) here's my conclusion. The Autumnal Equinox and the Harvest Moon represent the change of season. Change is a necessary part of growth. As a snake sheds its skin or a hermit crab its shell, or a loved one leaves our side, change is vital. I stood there looking out at the moonlit garden and listened as the trees rustled in the wind. I sensed peace. As if I were surrounded by everything I loved that in that moment promised to support me in the transition. Don't fight it the wind rustled. And I looked up in time to see an auburn aura reflected on a few clouds that passed the moon.

And I knew who I am.

Thursday morning I turned on that Ricky Martin link in my previous blog
and turned it up high.
I danced around the studio ignoring Jazz (the dog's) worried look.
As I twirled past a tube of paint I grabbed it and squirted some paint into my hand.
And now I can check off #8 on the list at the right....finally.

And since I couldn't stop dancing I added a couple more.

"It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird:
it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg.
We are like eggs at present.
And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg.
We must be hatched or go bad." C.S.Lewis

  2. Magnificent shot of the moon---it was so bright here it shone through the shades and drapes! I wish I would have been outside to enjoy it!
Change is inevitable. We can choose to cling to a past that may have worked at the time, but does not serve us now~~or~~cut loose and live in the moment with all it offers!
I'm thinking I know which you did and will continue to do!

    XXOO~~♥

  8. Another great story. I love the huge canvases and the "hot" colors you used. Did you take the paint on your hand and fingerpaint onto the canvas? That would be so freeing and capture the "childlike" spirit. Can't wait to see where your creativity takes you.
Really looks like an art studio now, full of energy and passion! You sound so happy! Stay true to your authentic spirit.
