Seduction

It's funny how she sneaks up on you
Like the mist across a morning field
Reaching with little tendril arms
To wrap seductively around your ankles
Whispering sweet little words and
Humming intoxicating rhythms that mesmerize your soul

Until you awake and find
That once again she has dragged you farther away
And you cover your ears
Refusing to be enchanted
Trying to decipher fact from fiction

I was on a creative roll for a while there
Until the seductress pulled me away to...

Find a dress, get ready for wedding, learn to operate John Deere, mow lawn, mulch leaves, train puppy, give up on puppy, pull dead annuals, winterize garden pots, mulch leaves again, gasp at layers of dust, start dusting, give up on dusting, clean, do laundry, wash dishes, clean again, how much laundry do three people go through anyway, bills, damn I need to make a will, more bills, what Christmas shopping?, damn where's that puppy, leaves again, clean garage, vacuum, break vacuum, research new vacuum, uggh where is that dust coming from, what? create in studio? can't...too messy, need to catch up on chores....

Damn her. I know these are all things that need to be done. But when I stay in reality mode too long I start getting a wee bit cranky. And I really want to start working on all those creative projects I started but the seductress won't leave me alone. Why doesn't she do the chores instead?

And she whispers with enticing little words
That it'll only take a wee moment
To do your duty
As you turn to confront her
And pull off her mask
To reveal
Avoidance and Procrastination

(I'm cleaning the studio tomorrow)

  1. Hahahaha, did you open my head and take a peek into my mind?!? I could have written these words - except that I have not yet cleaned the garage or done half the things you've done! I had a day of errands yesterday, including taking both pets to the vet for the yearly checkup. That was an adventure in and of itself... Big hugs, busy one!! Love, Silke

  3. My typical day.
    *FLIT!*
And then I get a tiny taste of art....
    *FLIT BACK!*
And then reality smacks me in the skull hard.
    *FLIT!*
Welcome to the world of being an artist AND getting to deal with life! Sometimes you just have to grab those little moments and hang on for dear life....

  5. Top on my list today is clean the studio too. as of focus will be else where in a few days with the thanksgiving feast upon us so keeping it high on the list will make me a happy camper and I might even fit in a bit of play...do it Elena one always feels more fuller and complete when a balance of play and work fit in nicely for the day.. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it..
