After picking up my son he wanted to go for a ride so we jumped on the moto and ended up in Morris and walked along the I&M canal a bit. Then after dinner I decided to try something I didn't want to do. My neighbor belongs to a woman's club in town and invited me to their membership meeting. I didn't want to go because....hmmm....oh hell, I don't know why. I read their website and they're really involved with the community and I get so shy....So before I could talk myself out of it I went. I had a really good time. Everyone was really nice and I actually met someone who grew up in my neighborhood in Chicago. We're the same age and know the same places. By the end of the night, I had signed up to join and am working at the childrens' games booth in the upcoming Octoberfest. I thought of signing up for the petting zoo but figured a city kid like me would probably be eaten by a goat and the sight of that would probably scar the kids. Ugghhh....But this will be good for me in the long run. I'm making an effort to try new things - no matter how uncomfortable. I'm trying to show my son that he needs to give back to society...besides he said if he could start a new school the least I could do was give this a try. Darned kid...who's the parent anyway?

New Things
Well it was an interesting day today. I recently discovered that I tend to be more of a loner which probably explains why I don't have many friends. Hmmm....interesting concept. Anyway, I decided to venture out into society and ended up at a library and thrift shop in search of old books. I just love the smell of old books. I then found Michaels and Ace Hardware for supplies and eventually ran into an antique store just to look at what they had. I always wonder if any of the items' owners hang around wondering why people are touching their things. Might explain the prickly feeling behind my neck.

Elena, good for you!
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of you.
You must go where you are afraid to go...that is where the gold is..
you must push through your comfort zone....
You're right Suz, it reminded me of this quote:
ReplyDelete“Never trade the thrills of living for the security of existence”.
I love that quote Elena!! It's a good philosophy to live by!! Not always easy though.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are sooooo beautiful. They make me want to scrap everything that I need to do today and just wander in the woods somewhere!!
I'm searching that tree photo for the giraffe to peek through!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you went out and began making new acquaintences. I'm sure you'll find that many others feel quite similarly. And what lovely autumn flowers!
