Waiting

My inspiration has fizzled

I play the duck and dodge game

With my mind

As I sit in emotional limbo

I'm alone in a dreaded waiting room

With the sickenly sweet elevator music

My foot taps, I flip the magazine page, I sigh

When is it my turn?

Perhaps they forgot about me

Is this where I'm supposed to be?

I get up to look in the mirror

And realize I'm looking out into the real world

From the wrong side of the mirror
