The 43rd

I lay in bed watching the rising sun toy with the leaves thinking I've been lucky to open my eyes for 43 years. I asked that I get a break from negativity and be open to any messages I was meant to receive. Jumping on the motorcycles we headed out to breakfast and soon hit the back roads.

This past year I've been falling into the gloom as I watch farmlands up for sale become yet another store, factory or housing complex. So I was thrilled to see the large expanses of land with no signs of blacktop. Watching deer and coyotes run through the fields and even looking up in time to see the sun filtered through the outstretched wings of an eagle flying overhead. It was like the movies, all I needed was some sappy background music. Feeling inspired I yelled at the top of my lungs "It's great to be alive!". Perhaps some poor farmer heard me and nodded sadly as he wondered about the crazy people on the road.

I saw a sign that said "Live your life with passion". And at that moment I felt I was; I was connected to everything around me. We stopped in a small church among the cornfields and walked inside just in time to see a baby being baptized. We sat and shared this moment and listened to the reminder that we are Light. Afterwards we walked into the cemetery where I heard mewing and found a kitten sprawled beneath a tree. I tried walking away but turned in time to see her following me dragging her back legs. I couldn't leave her even though I tried. Eventually we took off, with the kitten safely nestled in my saddle bag with a soft bed of shirt, gloves and whatever.

Stopping every 30 miles or so to let her get air and water. I'm sure it was amusing to see two bikers pull up and walk with a kitten cradled in leather gloves. I fed her beef jerky that I had to chew to soften. I know I know but it was a gas station.. Putting her back in her bed, she'd poke her head out the little opening. I told her to lay still or she'd be roadkill. She'd pop her head back in. I rode and prayed that I would figure out what to do. Then deciding I was worrying I said "Look, you sent me to find her now show me what to do with her." We stopped at a few places that were closed and eventually came home. I called and found a place that was getting ready to close who agreed to take her. They looked at her and said they would take her to the vet & keep her until she was strong. I wanted to keep her but am so desperately allergic. I asked if they would kill her and the woman looked shocked and said NO we're a no-kill shelter. I was so relieved I could have hugged her.

It was an awesome day. We came back home and sat laughing at our adventures. As I cleaned out my saddle bag I found the necklace I bought in a road side shop. And it seemed to wrap it altogether nicely.

Sacred Tree/Tree of Life
The sacred tree or Tree of Life represents the fruitfulness of the earth, evoking spiritual growth, abundance, and rebirth. Rooted in the heart of the earth, it drinks the sacred waters of life and stretches its branches into the heavens, providing a bridge between celestial and earthly powers.

  3. Elena, this seems like such a wonderful day. I didn't know it was your birthday--I will have to remember. I send you all the best wishes to fulfill your dreams. Thank you for making me part of your journey and I can hardly wait for your visit. I wish it was longer because we sure could cross a few items of your list! I am glad you bought the tree of life! I asked for one for my birthday and Jon got me a beautiful one! I also had one done on papyrus in Egypt. I remember not too long ago the sadness and desperation in your postings and now, so much joy, gratitude, and love! ;) You are an inspiration.
