"You know, when you work and have the money to travel, you don't have the time."
"Then when you have the time, you don't have the money."
"So in reality, you think you're free when all along there's this ball and chain strapped to your ankle making sure you don't fly too far."
He looked at me, in that familiar look that says he's not sure how to respond
and knowing I'm not looking for a response anyway.
Then I laughed and said.
"Funny thing is I bet it's like those old Three Stooges cartoons where you could pick up that ball and chain and walk around with it."
"Boy, that would really suck if you spent your entire life believing you couldn't get far because of that ball and chain only to realize on your death bed that the ball and chain were fake and weighed a few ounces."
Hubby was right in not responding;
soon enough I come around full circle in my thinking
soon enough I come around full circle in my thinking
Like a ball (and chain) hee hee

I LOVE the way you think hahaha
ReplyDelete...so have you thrown away your shackles? :)
I wonder if he was silent because he was thinking HE was the ball and chain you were referring to! Ha!
ReplyDeleteI love that you talk your thought process out openly with your husband. I do the same and give mine kudos all the time for putting up with me ;)
This reminds me of a lyric from a Dave Matthews song, "What I want is what I've not got. What I need is all around me." All we need to do is realize that we already have everything we need, we must learn to enjoy what we have and quit looking for the next best thing.
ReplyDeleteOMG I am too profound for so early in the morning, I need another cup of coffee, luckily it is right here;-)
So pick up the ball and chain and take a ride!
