Mystic Monday: Eyes Closed Scary

Things I've learned from scary movies
  • Never stop to look back when you're running
  • If you fall, get up & run
  • Never never never bring an Ouija board into your home (never)
  • Never dare an entity to come out and face you
  • Get out
I don't care for slashers, but it's the ones dealing with 'evil lurking in the shadows-bump in the night' kind that catch my interest. There are only a handful that stay in my mind and give me major heebie-jeebies. Having watched the Exorcist at a way-too-young age, it left a bad impression. And this weekend I watched Paranormal Activity and made hubby sleep on the couch with me.

So in the safety of daylight, hubby asked why it scared me if it was only a movie. I said because if I believe in God and angels, then there has to be a flip side. My mom always told me that evil lurks in the shadows waiting for the right opportunity. Waiting for a weak moment-ready to twist things around until it gets what it wants. Has the ability to make weak-minded people do evil things. And you have to be aware so you can protect yourself.

A couple years ago I was attracted to a pretty crystal pendulum. I felt an intense curiosity towards this piece wondering how it worked. But I also felt an intense "warning" feeling. That little tickle in the back of your mind that says stay away. And of course my rational mind that says "yeah right" to everything. But I was trying to be open-minded. Intent on exploring different ways of thinking. So I ignored all my feelings and bought it convincing myself that if it didn't work I could hang it off my rear-view mirror. Mistake.

Our once very comfortable condo just didn't feel the same.We still loved being there but there was a little feeling of uneasiness. And my son wouldn't go into any dark rooms and started seeing what he called a ghost dog. Then one night I had the most horrible nightmare where I was being chased by demons and I managed to wake myself. I then heard my son moaning in his sleep so I went by his side and he woke up scared senseless about having been chased by demons. I spoke to someone about this, and they said we had to invoke God's white light of protection around our home and ourselves. We made up a little prayer that has become ritual. And everything stopped. No more nightmares or scary dogs. Funny thing though that about a year later when curiosity led me to a psychic she said "what was attracted to you and your son's light stayed at the condo; it did not follow you to your home. Stay away from the pendulum". How did she know? Oh yeah....psychic. Not to worry, I listen to my inner guidance now. If it doesn't feel right, I don't get involved.

I asked a priest about this and he agreed, saying that before reaching out for guidance it's important to invoke God's protection and state that you only want guidance from God's highest divine spirits & angels. He said it's important because there are low entities, like bottom-feeders, that are tricksters and just waiting for someone to unknowingly open a door.

So, hubby, that's why that movie scared me. Because the most important thing I've learned is:
  • Be careful not to dabble in things that can open doors you're not prepared to close
  • And 'curiosity killed the cat '

  1. This is a most interesting post; dealing with things beyond what we see, and using our natural warning system that we are born with.
I have not experienced it with *things* (though in the military, I am sure one of the housing units we stayed in had had some tragedy due to nightmares similar to yours EVERY NIGHT that we lived there...for three years....) but with people. That *hair on the back of the neck* tingle. When I touch their hand I know I don;t want to know them at all. Going cold.
In the progress of civilization, I think our abilities to sense things have been discouraged and pushed back, and only surface occasionally, and usually when something bad happens. Maybe the contact with *bad* is much stronger than seeing and finding *good*. This is hard to articulate.
But I do find you conversation with the priest most interesting, and it is something that people should ponder. Because, we don't always get what we want, we get what we have asked for....

  2. Oh, what an interesting post! I used to be very afraid of the dark and all the unseen things, but no more at all. I guess I am so used to invoking the protection of my guardian angels and other beings of light that I feel safe anymore. I haven't had a nightmare in many years and I have had light-filled experiences that have knocked my socks off. Trust your inner guidance - that is very good advice. And if it doesn't feel good, it probably isn't! And don't watch scary movies... ;-) Love, Silke

  4. BOO !
okay, you totally asked for that....LOL

I love scary movies but have refused to watch paranormal activity because it looks too real....

what's the name of the homemade movie where the kids are hiking in the woods and they have the video cameras on themselves....now that was scary to me too because of the realness.....

but carrie and christine and anything hannibel and halloween....nope, those don't really phase me....but did you see hitcher ?....now that was kind of awful !

  5. Great post, Elena! I hope your fear has faded by now after watching the movie.

I LOVE scary movies...I haven't seen Paranormal Activity yet but I sure want to. I've heard it's really good...and scary! I hate 'fake' scary movies...if something looks fake to me in a movie, it spoils the whole thing for me.

How interesting about the crystal pendulum...it must have had negative energies in it from a previous owner or from someone who handled it. I've used crystal pendulums before no probs. I totally agree that we should listen to our gut instincts.

I'm not a fan of Ouija boards after having had a negative experience with one many years ago. I can't believe they sell those things in toy stores now!

Btw, Beth...the movie you're trying to think of re. the young teens being lost was The Blair Witch Project. I've never seen it but my son watched it about a month ago and he got scared.

  6. I don't watch scary movies either, or not usually. I know I am always surrounded by my guardian angels. Plural. Evil exists in mankind and is rarely recognized by unknowing victims. Without pausing too deeply here, my ex was evil and the diamonds he gave cursed. You may enjoy the sixth sense if you haven't seen it yet, although I tend to skip out on several parts.
