And I could say I'm afraid of the dark. But it's what's in the dark that gives me the heebie jeebies. Sometimes I can handle the dark fine but there are times where it just "feels" different. That feeling of being watched but not being able to find the source. Like driving home from town at night and making the mistake of looking in the rearview mirror and all I see is blackness. Do you know how hard it is knowing that that blackness is looming behind you?
Then there's the moments where everything is fine and I can feel a change. I can be watching tv late at night and feel something has changed. And I used to hate that as my eyes darted back and forth trying to find the source. But now I keep watching tv and say out loud "you've got no business here, move on" followed by "angels please escort whatever it is outta here". And it works. Things go back to normal.
But then there's those moments in daylight that I can't explain. Like when I was walking with my son through the woods when he was around three. We were alone and he was in front of me. We were having a good time but just as I sensed something different he stopped and I walked into him. He grabbed my hand and said we had to leave. I told him we should keep going. He was insistent and near tears as he said we had to go NOW. There were no sounds-meaning the birds had stopped chirping. I looked around and felt that "watching" feeling again so I picked him up and made a quick retreat. It could have been a 'perv'.
And I think the creepiest moments so far have been riding the motorcycle through Arizona into California. We rode the last mile in the dark. As usual I took up the rear and could feel the darkness looming behind. I tried my hardest not to look in the mirrors and instead watched the headlight catch like emeralds in the coyotes' eyes as they darted across the road.
During the day we rode through sunny terrain that felt horrible. I could feel the hair standing on my arms as I felt, really truly felt, as if a thousand eyes watched us pass. It was only three of us on that forsaken patch. And I couldn't understand these weird feelings. But I couldn't be a chicken biker so I stopped and pulled to the side of the road. My fellow riders didn't realize I had stopped so I was left alone. I thought to myself that there was no way I was going to let my fear get the best of me. It was dirt, sand and rocks. That's all.
So I took the camera out of my pocket and took some pictures. And it just felt like I was surrounded. And that whatever it was was getting closer. But no way was I giving in. Then my bike slipped sideways and we both started to fall. I did what I'm not supposed to do and stuck my leg out to catch us both. I would rather risk a broken leg then be layed out here. No way. I caught it before we hit the ground, turned it on and took off. With one last look in the mirror I realized there was more there than I was ready to handle.
So why are these 'better-suited-for-Halloween' things on my mind? Because this city kid just discovered corn growing in the field next door. And I have no clue what's beginning to lurke in the rows.
Teee,heee (nervous giggle)
Perhaps this is a good time to become a hermit.
And board up the windows.

OMG Dont watch the Hills have Eyes then.....your pics and story reminded me of that. My husband is a fan of horror so I've had many "scared the crap out of me" nights. The first movie we went to see together when we first started dating was the Excorsist when it was re-released in 2001 at the cinemas. He stayed over the night and all was good but the next night he went home and I don't mind admitting I had to sleep with the light on lol. I don't like the dark I still get the night spooks. This will probably sound awful for the poor farmers who planted it but hopefully the corn next to you withers and doesn't grow ;)
ReplyDeleteYikes! wow, you can sure write and get your feelings across!!
ReplyDeleteA number of years ago I started to get panic attacks, same kind of thoughts and feelings, I got about a total of 5 of them over a few years, kept talking to myself too, then it just stopped, You are not alone.....hmm, now that was not meant to be creepy!!smile.
Ewww...you gave me big shivers as I read this!
ReplyDeleteI think the calling on angels and wishing the "creepies" away that way is a great idea. Maybe even asking for protection and a surround of safety from the angels, or positive energies around us, on a daily basis ? Iam sending you white light juju positive mojo to you as we speak...Out, out, your creepy creeps ! Bring in the Good Stuff all around this powerful and loving Biker Chick and her peeps !;)
yikes....i might have to stay a few nights at the cottage next week by myself and gulp...ummmm, you know how dark it is there at night and now i'll be thinking about this post and well, oh crap, now i think somebody is going to have to stay with me.....
ReplyDeleteKinda like my scarecrow creeping me out. He doesn't seem so alarming stored in the garage rather than the attic. Kids are more alert to warning signals than we are. Animals too. Listen and know the angels are always there.
