"When you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount" Dakota tribal saying
Rather ingenious don't you think? Such a no brainer. But the following is the business world's response:
- Buying a stronger whip.
- Changing riders.
- Appointing a committee to study the horse.
- Arranging to visit other countries to see how other cultures ride dead horses.
- Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included.
- Reclassifying the dead horse as living-impaired.
- Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse.
- Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed.
- Providing additional funding and/or training to increase the dead horse's performance.
- Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve the dead horse's performance.
- Declaring that as the dead horse does not have to be fed, it is less costly, carries lower overhead and therefore contributes substantially more to the bottom line of the economy than do some other horses.
- Rewriting the expected performance requirements for all horses.
- Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position. unknown
Little did I know I'd end up with a group of amazing and creative people who selflessly shared their wisdom and humor. I'm not retaliating anymore (well...there are some days). But now I just keep writing whatever crosses my mind. Because if I can make someone stop for a moment to appreciate their uniqueness and be proud of their strength...well then it's all worth it.
Thank you very much for being part of My Quest

I am honored to have met you on this journey!
ReplyDeleteYou are and have always been an artist, make it ok!

ReplyDeletelol hehehe hahaha lol heheha living impaired, that is so hilarious. I can't believe its a year already :)
ReplyDeleteYou do realize the corporate world's view is slightly less skewed than that of the military...especially the part about promoting the dead horse! LOL!!!

And if the *horse* you ride breaks down, it just needs gas or a trip to the mechanic! :D

ReplyDeleteI am so happy to know you and to be able to follow you (and hopefully walk beside you a little bit!) on your journey! It's so reassuring to know that there are people like you out there!!
I'll choose to dismount. That's a great analogy, so true. It's governments way to do ten studies to decide to hire another employee and then as the year has past, the increased workload needs two... and they're so wrapped up in themselves they can't see they forgot to feed the horse.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo Elena : ) Happy anniversary!
