Elena = Enigma
How can I be a 'big bad biker' and have to cover my eyes or ears when I hear of cruelty
One moment I think there's hope in the world and the next feel we're doomed
In the last couple days I've inadvertently encountered headlines about dead dolphins, slaughtered mustangs, oil covered birds, slaughtered buffalo, drilling, last of the wild, litter piles, the endless
we'redoomedtodieinawastelandeatingeachothercrap
And I get the chain emails
the ones saying add your name to this list and we'll save the whales
and I cringe, envisioning someone hiding behind the screen
with no intention of ever doing something about 'it'
except hitting Send
I worry that I'm one of them
by covering my eyes and ears
am I ignoring the situation
Does feeling helpless make me useless?
No
I'm reacting to the doom and gloom vibe
The download of negative information caused a logjam in my head
I know this bothers me because I do care
But I'm thinking big picture; wanting to save all the world
When in reality I am one person who needs to do her part
And trust that everyone else is doing their part
My part may not be leading demonstrators to Washington
Or tying myself to a tree (well, maybe)
hee hee
I don't know what it is, yet
But it'll come to me
I just have to be patient
me?
Maybe it's like building a pyramid
one stone at a time
or one person at a time
I can so relate, Elena! Last week, there was a day I had to shut off TV and the news - there was so much bad news and when they were telling about the dying dolphins I couldn't listen anymore. The big picture can make one feel so powerless, but then I think that the best thing we can do is letting our light shine brightly. Sometimes I think that that has more of an impact than signing petitions or being "against" anything. I know I don't make sense, as I am having a hard time putting my thoughts into words... Much love, Silke
ReplyDeleteEvery single person has a singular and unique job to do in a fight to keep our country and environment safe and habitable for all, not just the wealthy that can escape elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteMeditate, remain faithful and listen for what your role is.
You'll get an answer.....

In changing our perception we change our world. There will always be disasters, some natural, some man made, in doing our individual best we create light around us and subtly link in to those of "light" minds, sending out to those in need.
ReplyDeleteOh, how ironic that I read your post after having just finished watching a program on the Lost Book of Nostradamus and his predictions for the apocalypse that is supposedly coming in 2012!!!!!! I don't WANT to focus on the gloom and doom but it is everywhere!!! And, if I just try and stay focused on the positive things in life, in seeing the light in everyone around me.....am I just hiding my head in the sand????? So much is out of my control, even in my own little microcosm of the world--my family of three. I know I can't fix everything!! And just when I convince myself that "letting go" is the answer to maintaining sanity and peace and happiness----something else that's ugly/off-balance/distressing rears it's ugly head in my face and I start scrambling for ways to fix it!!! I am not God. I cannot fix everything. I think you have the right answer--we each need to just do OUR part to be the best and do the best that we can and hope that is rubs off on someone else and then, in turn, rubs off on someone else etc. It's all I (we) can do.
ReplyDeletethat feeling when it sometimes engulfs u,it's a terrible feeling to shake off, but then all we can do is our bit, do the right things, set an example through our actions and spread the word, as someone said 'ideas have legs, examples have wings'
ReplyDeleteYou're right, each of us can only do what we can. It's important to do our individual bit but we don't need to shoulder the entire responsibility.
