This week's word, Discomfort, was hosted by Sally of Sow and Sew. She's correct in saying it's much easier to write about happy words. Looking back through my posts for the week I realized I had been dancing with emotional discomfort for part of the week. Until it dawned on me that the Universe was just pushing me past my comfort zone. Funny how easy things get once you've reached that conclusion. Enough so that you look back at your earlier worries and laugh....as I suppose the Universe laughs too.
I went to my Reiki I certification class yesterday. I ignored the little tugs of discomfort that tried telling me this was a bunch of 'woo-woo nonsense and I'd go to hell'. Recognizing this mode of thinking I responded "As if" and went anyway. It was an amazing class. A true spiritual connection that I have found lacking in so many churches. Feeling somehow expanded by the end of class I left for home.
Upon exiting the expressway I saw a biker pulled over and running across the street jacket in hand. Following his gaze I saw a naked bloody woman walking in the median. Before I realized what I was doing, I was out of my car running towards her along with another guy coming from the other direction. We got her to my car but she panicked upon seeing the back seat. So instead we covered her and surrounded her. I called the paramedics and her sister and we waited. She cried asking what had happened, who could do this. She looked at me with pleading eyes and I just stroked her head and said she was safe now and we wouldn't leave her alone. It was a surreal moment. I was there but not there. I noticed each person's eyes and saw love and compassion. I felt hope and it made me feel good inside.
Now you have to understand the situation here. I DO NOT stop to help people. I've usually driven by and upon seeing others there keep driving. If I see someone bloody I think of diseases thanks to a CPR class I took. But in this case. It was a naked woman; stripped of everything and discarded and I could not NOT help. I didn't think of my discomfort. I thought of her. Hell who am I kidding. I didn't think. I just reacted.
I'm not telling you this little story so you'll think I'm some type of heroic chick driving around ready to help. I'm saying that sometimes you have to push through your discomfort. Sometimes there's something valuable to be gained on the other side.
Elena, I'm glad that you pushed yourself to help this poor woman. It looks like she is traumatized when she didn't want to get in your back seat. I hope she heals and they catch the person who did this to her.
ReplyDeleteDiscomfort in life is what makes us stronger. Once we embrace the notion that life is not only COMFORT but DISCOMFORT, it is easier to deal with all the bumps and potholes that end up on our path.
ReplyDeleteYour experience is one of incredible growth---letting your instincts choose as opposed to letting the left brain say, no, we shouldn't do that.
Occasionally, we have to put on our guardian angel wings, if just for a short while....

Good for you for helping this poor soul! You were in the right place at the right time to act as someone else's Angel.
ReplyDeletereiki indeed..and only one class
ReplyDeleteprayer offered up for this wounded woman
bless you sister
you are my sister ya know
proud
wow....so do you have any idea what the story is on that woman ?
ReplyDeletei would have stopped too....without questiont.
the only time we didn't stop for "something wrong" was when we would have put ourselves in danger due to all the cars sliding on ice....
xo
oh my goodness!! this brought tears to my eyes wondering if this woman will be okay. I'm sure there is a story about what brought her to this horrible place (naked, discarded, in an unsafe location). I can see all her angels descending on her - thank goodness for the quick action of so many people.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any updates about her condition? is she in a safe place now? being cared for by family? I hope your husband gave you lots of hugs & kisses upon hearing you placed yourself in such a dangerous situation. You are an ANGEL!
Well Elena, what a story and so well done. Through you part of her story is known and through you she is now the recipient of prayers of healing from all who have been touched by your story. Sometimes discomfort can be a positive word because we are pushed "positively" past our comfort zone limits. I have put this poor soul on my healing list.
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this for her and us. When any of us take risks, we all grow. Love Karen
ReplyDeleteHoly Crap! The three of you were angels. I cannot imagine what that poor woman was going through. That is something you see in the movies, not in real life. Thank you, thank you for reacting. You ARE a hero as are the others who responded. You were tested and passed with flying colors.
ReplyDeleteHuge healing vibes being sent in the direction of the victim. Ouch x1000.
Wow, what a story!! Do you know what happened, is she ok? I hope I would have stopped, but great story to the point of discomfort!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing post and so fearless to share more than anything else. Just going to pause and think and react to the discomfort and feel huge relief and appreciation that there is hope in humanity-there is kindness and that everyone is capable of reaching out...for sometimes the very small and quiet things and sometimes when tragedy is everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping.
Wow. I think everyone else has already said everything. I believe that we are honestly put in the right place at the right time to help the right people. It has happened to me several times usually old men suffering from dementia oddly enough but maybe the universe is saying something about that. All your recent changes left you walking this new path all naked but you have found all this comfort from new places and people. The universe was giving you a chance to pass it on. Maybe? I don't know. I often think too much. ((Hugs))
